It’s really exciting for us to hear about the lives of our pupils who often come to school with lots of different experiences. Here, Fatemeh Shahbazi, who is in Y4, tells us more about her journey so far.
My name is Fatemeh Zahra Shahbazi and I am 9 years old. I live with my family in Knaresborough which is in North Yorkshire.
I live with my Mummy and daddy and my Grandma and her cat live nearby.
My family originally come from Afghanistan, but I was born in Iran and then moved to Turkey before coming to the UK. I started at Doncaster School for the Deaf in 2023.
I don’t have many memories from before but I do remember my school in Turkey which was very different to here.
I am Deaf but my Mummy and Daddy are hearing. They speak and I don't always know what they say. It sometimes makes me nervous when I don’t understand things but I love coming to Doncaster School for the Deaf, it's my favourite!
I like my friends at school and Mrs Davies is a teacher here and she helps me. When I don't know what people are saying Mrs Davies and the other staff sign to me.
At home I like to play. I have lots of LEGO and colouring pens in a container as I love drawing funny pictures. I always bring in my artwork to school to give to my friends and teachers which they enjoy.
When I grow up, I want to go to college and maybe even join the police.
